EN10216-2 P235GH TC1 Heat Resistant Non-alloy Pressure Carbon Steel U Tube

The EN10216-2 P235GH TC1 Heat Resistant Non-alloy Pressure Carbon Steel U-tube is a seamless steel tube product manufactured in accordance with the European standard EN 10216-2 — Seamless Steel Tubes for Pressure Purposes — Technical Delivery Conditions — Part 2: Non-Alloy and Alloy Steel Tubes with Specified Elevated Temperature Properties. It is made of P235GH heat-resistant non-alloy quality steel (European steel number 1.0345), specifically designed for pressure-bearing applications such as steam boilers, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and high-temperature piping systems.

In the material designation, “P” denotes pressure purpose, “235” indicates a minimum yield strength of 235 MPa when the wall thickness is 16 mm or less, and “GH” signifies specified elevated temperature properties. TC1 stands for Test Category 1, meaning that the material has been subjected to specific non-destructive tests (such as ultrasonic testing, X-ray examination, and visual inspection) during manufacture to ensure its suitability for pressure vessel applications. The product is formed into a U-bend configuration through tube bending. The applicable temperature range is approximately 200°C to 400°C, with a maximum of about 450°C. The U-tube configuration effectively accommodates thermal expansion stresses, making it particularly suitable for shell-and-tube heat exchangers and other applications requiring thermal displacement compensation.

2. Key Advantages

  • This material is specially designed for high-temperature service, maintaining stable mechanical properties within the temperature range of 200°C to 400°C.
  • TC1(Test Category 1)means that the product has undergone strict non-destructive testing as specified during the manufacturing process.
  • The material also exhibits good thermal fatigue resistance, allowing stable long-term operation under temperature fluctuation environments.
  • The product is already formed into a U-bend configuration, demonstrating its excellent cold bending formability to meet the bending requirements of heat exchanger tube bundles.

With our humidity and year-round high temps, corrosion resistance and heat transfer are always a concern. These tubes have been performing nicely.

The 13Cr pins add some cost, but for sour service in furnaces, it's worth it. Already seeing longer run times between turnarounds compared to before.

the SS409 pins resist sulfur corrosion better than carbon steel pins we used earlier. In furnace service, that means longer runs between maintenance.
